ALTのエマ先生からのメッセージ、その3です。今回は、体育大会について。イギリスの体育大会は日本とどう違うのでしょうか? 興味が沸きますね。
Recently, I experienced sports day at Usuki High School. It reminded me of my high school sports day in the UK.
In the UK, on sports day, everybody wears their house color. Like in “Harry Potter”, every school in the UK has “houses”. They are a bit like classes. I went to an all-girls high school, so our houses were named after famous historical women. The house I was in was called “Curie” after Marie Curie and our house color was red.
I wasn’t very good at sports in high school, but sports day was always fun. There were competitions, races, and of course, a barbecue for lunch! In the UK, sports day is held before summer vacation, so the weather is usually good. But, even though Usuki sports day was held in September it was still so hot outside!
In the UK, on sports day there are always lots of competitions happening at the same time.
Sometimes it is a bit difficult to cheer on your friends – maybe one friend is in the relay race on the left side of the field, while another friend is in the long-jump competition on the right side of the field! At Usuki High School, everyone watches every competition on sports day and I like that. All the students can support their friends and every competition feels
important.
I had another completely new experience on sports day in Japan; I was so surprised to hear that all of the students dance at the end of sports day! I have never danced on sports day before, but I decided to join in. It was very fun, even though I didn’t know the dance.
Overall, I had a great time on sports day at Usuki High School. I’m so glad I could experience it!
