エマ先生からのメッセージ7 Burns Night

Today I want to tell you about a Scottish National Holiday. It’s called Burns Night. Scottish people celebrate Burns Night on January 25 th . That’s Robert Burns’ birthday. He was born in 1759. Robert Burns was a famous Scottish poet. He wrote his poems in an old Scottish language called ‘Scots’.
On Burns Night, we eat haggis and read poems. Haggis is a traditional Scottish food. It’s made of mutton (sheep meat), oatmeal, spices, and onions.
My mum is from Scotland, so my family celebrates Burns Night every year. My mum always reads Robert Burns’ traditional poems. She has a very old book of poems. It belonged to her great-grandfather.
I can’t find haggis in Japan, so I won’t eat it this year, but I’ll call my family and we’ll read Robert Burns’ poems together.

This is the haggis supper we ate last year. We eat haggis with mashed potato and swede.
