A New Hobby in Japan

When people ask me, “What is your favorite hobby?” I usually answer with “mountain climbing!” However, two years ago, my answer would have been very different. Before I moved to Japan, I did not climb mountains. If you look at pictures of my home state, Illinois, you will quickly understand why that was. There are no mountains in Illinois! When I arrived in Bungotakada and saw the mountains, I was very surprised and excited to explore them because in my first 23 years of life, I had rarely seen mountains. Nowadays, I frequently climb on the Kunisaki Peninsula. I have also climbed mountains like Mt. Kuju and Mt. Yufudake. Through this hobby, I have seen amazing places and met many new friends. I’m looking forward to many more climbs in the future!
